Visitation & Staying Connected
Maintaining appropriate contact with family and loved ones can be an important part of the treatment and recovery process. Mississippi State Hospital encourages families to stay connected while respecting each patient’s privacy, treatment needs, and wishes.
Visiting Your Loved One
Visitation is available according to unit-specific schedules and guidelines. Visiting requirements may vary depending on the patient’s location, treatment needs, hospital policies, and other circumstances.
- Before visiting, families should confirm:
- Visiting hours
- Where to check in
- Identification requirements
- Items that may or may not be brought into the hospital
- Whether an appointment is required
- Any current visitation restrictions or special procedures
If you are unable to visit in person, ask Social Services about other approved ways to maintain contact with your loved one.
Social Services: Supporting Patients and Families
The Social Services Department plays an important role in supporting patients and families throughout the hospital stay. Social workers serve as the primary point of contact for patients’ families, helping bridge communication between the treatment team and loved ones while respecting patient privacy and consent.
- Social Services can assist with:
- Questions about your loved one’s treatment and hospital experience
- Understanding hospital processes
- Connecting patients and families with community resources
- Communicating with the treatment team, when permitted
- Treatment and discharge planning
- Preparing for your loved one’s transition to the community
Social workers are available to help families navigate each stage of their loved one’s treatment with clarity and compassion.
