Frequently Asked Questions
Can I call my loved one?
Yes. Patients and families should follow MSH’s current procedures for telephone communication. Contact your loved one’s Social Services representative for information about the appropriate process.
Can I talk to my loved one’s treatment team?
If you have information or concerns you believe may be important to your loved one’s care, contact your Social Services representative.
What information can the hospital share with me?
The information MSH can share depends on applicable privacy laws, the patient’s consent, and the circumstances of the individual patient. Social Services can explain what information may be shared and how you can remain involved.
Can I visit my loved one?
Visitation is available according to current MSH policies, unit schedules, and the patient’s treatment circumstances. Before visiting, review the appropriate service visitation policy on this website or contact the hospital to confirm visiting hours and requirements.
When will my loved one be discharged?
Discharge decisions are based on each patient’s individual treatment needs, progress, and discharge plan. Discharge planning begins early, but the timing of discharge varies from person to person. The treatment team will work with the patient and, when appropriate, family members and community providers to prepare for the next step in care.
What can I do to help my loved one?
Family support can be an important part of treatment and recovery. Families can help by:
- Staying connected with their loved one in approved ways
- Sharing relevant information with the treatment team
- Communicating concerns or questions
- Participating in treatment and discharge planning when appropriate
- Supporting treatment goals and recommendations
- Helping identify family, community, and other support resources
Who should I contact if I have questions?
Social Services is the primary point of contact for families and can help answer questions, connect you with the appropriate member of the treatment team, and provide guidance throughout your loved one’s stay.
