Mississippi State Hospital Peer Bridger Trey White has recently added “author” to his list of accomplishments with the release of his new book, Meth 2 Marathons, which shares his powerful story of addiction, recovery, and redemption. The book was recently released and is now available through Amazon. White said the book grew out of a desire to reach people who feel trapped by the lie that change is no longer possible for them. Reflecting on his own journey, he shared that for years he believed sobriety was something that happened for other people, but not for someone living the kind of life he was living. After getting sober and staying sober, he realized that belief had not been truth at all, but something comfortable that kept him from trying. He said he wrote the book for the person who still feels too far gone, hoping they will see that there is still a way forward. White said revisiting difficult parts of his life brought up things he thought he had already dealt with, and that some moments required him to step away and breathe. At the same time, he said honesty was necessary because “watered-down stories don’t help anybody.” For White, the deepest hope of the book is that readers will come away with real hope, the kind that reminds them their story is not over. Elaine Sendelweck, LMSW, Social Services Director, praised White’s impact at MSH, saying, “We are truly honored that Trey has chosen to bring his talents and heart to MSH. Through his daily work, Trey exemplifies the true meaning of peer support services, not just as a job, but as a genuine calling rooted in lived experience and compassion.” She added that his positive and encouraging spirit brings hope and reassurance to those he serves, and that MSH is grateful to have him as part of the team. White said the parts of the book closest to his heart are the moments when he hit rock bottom, not because he is proud of them, but because that is where honesty began and where change truly started. His message is simple, but powerful: no one is too far gone. For readers who pick up his book, that message may be exactly what they need most!
